Teaching Children Early

On the 23rd of March, our Practice Manager, Kristylee, and our new Oral Health Therapist, Maddie, visited Wyong Preschool to give the children and teachers an information session about how to best look after young teeth through toothbrushing and diet. We discussed what to expect at their first dental visit and the kids were very excited to visit soon!

Did you know that you should start to bring your baby to the dentist as soon as their first teeth erupt? This allows us to ensure everything is developing normally, give parents hints and tips about how to best care for your baby’s teeth, and most importantly, for your baby to become comfortable in the unfamiliar dental environment to set them up for positive dental visits throughout their childhood.

It is very important for us here at Church St Dental to build up a strong relationship with our surrounding preschools and schools so that the children feel confident about caring for their teeth and love visiting us regularly.

Oral Cancer Awareness

April is Oral Cancer awareness month!

Did you know, studies done by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare report that there are approximately 2500 new cases of oral cancer in Australia each year!
Symptoms can include:

  • visible lumps that may or may not be painful
  • an ulcer that won’t heal
  • bleeding from ulcers or lumps
  • impaired tongue mobility
  • trouble swallowing
  • sore gums
  • and swollen lymph glands.

Without treatment oral cancer can burrow into the deeper tissue and spread to your throat and glands.Your dentist is the first line of defence in early detection of this disease! All our doctors ensure that an oral cancer check is part of our patients regular 6 monthly preventative appointments.

If you have any concerns, please book in with one of our experienced dentists today!

Our Local Community

At Church St Dental, it’s not all about teeth!

We are proud to be a part of and support our local community.

Last week our Practice Manager Kristylee and Practice Coordinator Ashleigh visited the recently built Mariners Centre of Excellence to drop off some delicious treats and get to know some of the up-and-coming local businesses.

We are very excited to see this development coming along and all the future potential this sporting, health and education hub will provide to the local community and economy.

Do dental x-rays produce a lot of radiation?

Dental x-rays have improved significantly over the years and are now faster, better quality and give a lower radiation dose. To put things in perspective:

  • one dental x-ray would have the equivalent radiation you would receive from half a day outside
  • two dental x-rays has the equivalent radiation found in 100g of brazil nuts
  • a full-mouth x-ray gives the equivalent of two days outside
  • a 3D x-ray would give the equivalent of 12 days outside or the equivalent of
  • flying from New York to Sydney
